Community Consultative Committee
The Community Consultative Committee (CCC) is a statutory committee under Queensland legislation. CCC members are appointed by the WTMA Board as individuals who represent a broad range of stakeholders from throughout the Wet Tropics region. The Board has endorsed the CCC operational guidelines. CCC members come from Cooktown to Townsville and represent the views of the broader community. They are World Heritage landholders and neighbours, farmers, councillors, four wheel drivers, wildlife conservationists, tourist industry representatives, teachers, scientists and and many wear several hats. The meetings are also regularly attended by representatives from QPWS, GBRMPA and Terrain NRM.
The CCC generally meets before Board meetings each quarter and discusses issues arising from Board papers and other issues affecting the management of the World Heritage Area. This includes such community issues as weeds, feral animals, road and tourism access, World Heritage governance, and wildlife conservation.Members do not receive sitting fees. The next CCC meets on Friday 2012.
CALL FOR NOMINATIONSWET TROPICS COMMUNITY CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
The Board of the Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA) invites nominations from people interested in serving as Chairperson for the Community Consultative Committee (CCC) until 2014.
WTMA is also inviting nominations to replace a vacant member position on the CCC until 2014. The CCC supports WTMA with community issues related to the management of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
The committee comprises of 12 members who have:
- established community networks;
- knowledge of the World Heritage Area and involvement in one or more community issues associated with its management; and/or
- ability to exchange information between the community, the Committee and the Authority.
The committee will meet a minimum of two times a year. Most meetings are held in Cairns. Members are not paid sitting fees, however, their travel and associated expenses are reimbursed.
