Conservation Sector Liaison Group
The Conservation Sector Liaison Group (CSLG) acts as a key reference group on conservation challenges associated with the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, with members contributing valuable local experience and expertise to the development of WTMA's policies and strategies. Members have strong links to conservation NGOs within the region, and discuss a wide range of World Heritage conservation issues, with particular focus on threatening processes, such as climate change and bio-security.
Observers from key agencies actively involved in conservation and natural resource management in the region are also invited to attend CSLG meetings, and guests with specific expertise may be invited to discuss particular issues. Members abide by a set of operational guidelines and don't receive sitting fees, but WTMA reimburses travel expenses where the member's organisation is unable to cover them.
Members of the CSLG are appointed (for a three year term) by WTMA's Executive Director, and the Chair is appointed by the WTMA Board. The current CSLG was appointed in August 2011.
Meetings are held 3-4 times a year, with the new term of the CLSG meeting for the first time on 17 October 2011. Meetings are usually held around 4 weeks after WTMA Board meetings, with meetings scheduled for March, June, September and December 2012.
