The Young Cassowary Awards

The Young Cassowary Awards were introduced in 2005 to give students the opportunity to showcase the wonderful work they are doing to help the Wet Tropics Rainforest survive.

The Young Cassowary Awards are part of the bigger Cassowary Awards that recognise exceptional work in areas such as science, agriculture, tourism, culture and conservation.

The goal of this activity is for you and your school to somehow contribute to helping the Wet Tropics and hopefully receive recognition through the Young Cassowary Awards.

Have a look at the poster for an idea of the types of projects you or your school could do.

Scroll down the web page until you see a Young Cassowary Award hyperlink. You’ll probably realise that activities 21, 22, 23 and 24 would all make you eligible for a Young Cassowary Award. But what else can you do?

Now go to the site below to see how and why Wonga Beach State School became the inaugural Young Cassowary Award winners:

With school or community projects you don’t have to go it alone. In fact, there are many community volunteer groups who have developed considerable expertise in areas that may interest your school. Go to the following site to view the volunteer groups that may be able to assist your school.

GOOD LUCK!
