Unit 07 - Going A Little Batty Introduction
Bats (Order Chiroptera) are placental mammals. The ancestors of the bats we find in the rainforest today originally arrived in northern Australia when the seas were lower and there was a land connection with Papua New Guinea. There are 36 species of bats in the Wet Tropics, representing 60% of all bats species in Australia. Bats have evolved with tropical rainforests and are a very important part of rainforest life.
