Unit 08 - A Great Leap Forward
This unit is planned as a school-based Rich Task within the New Basics
Framework. This is an integrated framework for curriculum, pedagogy
and assessment. Rich Tasks (in this case the multi-media presentation)
are intellectually engaging and have real world value and use.

In this unit students begin to comprehend the concept of ecological
interrelatedness and environmental responsibility. The students will
gain understanding of what we do as a community impacts on the environment.
The children will create a multi-media presentation on their chosen
frog to be presented to an audience. It is intended that the multi media
presentation will inspire the audience to take action in protecting
our native frogs.
Frogs in north Queensland rainforests are under threat of extinction
for a number of reasons including habitat loss, disease, climate change,
dog and cat attacks. Frog populations can be maintained in urban areas
if people take care of them and provide conditions to enable them to
complete their life cycle.
