Tour Guide field school provides highlights

More than 20 tour guides and Traditional Owners attended the most recent Wet Tropics Tour Guide Field School at the Daintree’s Noah Creek Trails in October.

Themed “Water and Rainforest”, the field school featured talks by Dr Martin Cohen, Wild About Australia; Associate Professor Susan Laurence, James Cook University; Stuart Worboys, Australian Tropical Herbarium; Dr Brendan Ebner, CSIRO; and our very own Wet Tropics Management Authority staff.

A highlight of the weekend was a freshwater ecology component, featuring a field school snorkelling expedition with CSIRO's Dr Brendan Ebner, where attendees were treated to a variety of unique wildlife sightings including a freshwater moray, which was also caught on camera!

The Wet Tropics Tour Guide Program provides ongoing professional development for tour guides, educators and other public-contact personnel in the tourism and education industries. This open network of like-minded professionals and interested parties comes together to continually improve the interpretation of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
