Track Description
Crawfords Lookout to North Johnstone Lookout Crawfords Lookout to North Johnstone Lookout is part of a network of walks in the Palmerston section of Wooroonooran National Park. Stop at Crawfords Lookout and enjoy the spectacular view through the forest clearing from the carpark down to the North Johnstone River valley. The walks from Crawfords lookout offer some of the best views of this wild river valley as well as large rainforest.

The track to the North Johnstone Lookout is about 1.6 kilometres down a well formed track which quickly leaves behind the noise of traffic on the highway and winds down the steep gorge slopes through an impressive array of rainforest trees and buttress roots. The lookout is about 150 metres from the main track and the consists of an open grassy area overlooking the North Johnstone River and Douglas Creek. The track from here to Tchupala Falls is temporarily closed due to cyclone damage.

It is another 700 metres from the lookout turn off down to the river itself. The track traverses volcanic basalt flows via aluminium steps and has numerous sets of steps as it rapidly descends to the river. Take the time to enjoy the scenery, explore and swim. Be very careful of slippery rocks and fast flowing water.
