Track Description
Koolmoon Creek Track (Misty Mountains Trails) This walk is part of the newly opened Misty Mountain Trails which is situated between the towns of Innisfail, Tully, Ravenshoe and Millaa Millaa. This 130km walking network offers a variety of rainforest walks from shorter half day and day walks to longer treks requiring overnight camping. Several of the Misty Mountain walking tracks follow the routes traditionally used by the Ma:Mu and Jirrbal Traditional Owners to connect the coastal plain to the rocky country of the tablelands. Please note: some parts of the Misty Mountains Trails may be closed during the wet season due to flooding rivers and closed access roads.

The Koolmoon Creek Track is a long distance walk between Cochable Creek on the coastal lowlands (140m) and Ravenshoe (about 1100m) on the tablelands (follow the orange track markers). It includes numerous shorter walks which can be undertaken separately such Bally Knob, Walters Waterhole, Koolmoon Creek Headwaters, Djilgarrin Track and Elizabeth Grant Falls (see individual walks for more details).

Much of the Koolmoon Creek Track is recommended for fit and experienced walkers. The track can be very steep in places and the Djilgarrin section entails numerous stream crossings. However, the rewards more than compensate for the effort required. The walk offers a range of streams, swimming pools, waterfalls, panoramic scenic vistas, contrasting types of rainforest and a challenging wilderness experience. Campsites and toilets are available at Cochable Creek (opening in October 2003). Walters Waterhole and Koolmoon Creek Headwaters are bush camps.
