Places and Drives - The Southern Tropics - Broadwater State Forest

Photo courtsey of Paul Curtis

Broadwater is a scenic camping and picnic area 45km/28 miles (1 hr) west of Ingham in the Abergowrie State Forest. The cool, clear creek is a popular place for families and school groups to cool off and relax. There are excellent camping and picnicking facilities and several walks through the forest and along the creek. Walks include a 1.7km/1 mile (1hr) Rainforest Circuit and a 3km/1.8 mile (2.5 hr) Creekside Track. Don't forget your binoculars - the Broadwater birdlife is fantastic.

How to get there
Turn inland off from the Bruce Highway, 5 kilometres to the north of Ingham, just after the Herbert River bridge. It is 46 kilometres to the campground at Broadwater National Park. Fifteen Kilometres of the road remains unsealed. However, the road is generally suitable for caravans and trailers. To check road conditions, phone the QPWS office in Ingham on (07) 4777-2822.
