Places and Drives - The Northern Tropics - Mount Cook

Follow in Capt. James Cook's footsteps and climb Mt Cook overlooking the Endeavour River. The 4km (2.5 mile) walking track takes about 1.5 hrs to reach the top, passing through diverse vegetation communities. If you'd prefer a shorter walk, there is a lookout with views over Cooktown about 40 minutes' walk from the trail head. For group walks with an Aboriginal guide, contact the Gungarde Community Centre on (07) 4069-5412.

How to get there
The track starts at the base of Mount Cook, 4 km (2.5 miles) from Cooktown past the high school (ask a local for directions) or phone QPWS Cooktown on (07) 4069-5777.
