Places and Drives - Cairns / Kuranda - Crystal Cascades

"Crystals" is a favourite haunt among locals, particularly in the middle of summer when stinging jellyfish make ocean swimming unsafe. A series of waterfalls and pools in upper Freshwater Creek is the perfect place to cool down on a hot summer's day, and there are tables and shelters for picnics.

How to get there
Although well known, Crystal Cascades isn't serviced by public transport. Drive to Redlynch and follow the signs another 10km (6 miles) to Crystal Cascades. The total distance from downtown Cairns city is about 20 km (12 miles). For more information, phone (07) 4044-3044.
