Places and Drives - The Southern Tropics - Edmund Kennedy National Park

Explorer Edmund Kennedy travelled through this area on his ill-fated 1848 expedition to Cape York. The park protects a range of vegetation communities including foreshore plants, open woodlands, rainforest, mangroves and unique Bulkuru sedgeland swamps. There is a 5.5 km (3.4 mile) looped walk, a shorter boardwalk through mangroves and a beachside picnic area with fantastic views of Hinchinbrook and Goold islands.

How to get there
Edmund Kennedy National Park is 3km (1.8 miles) north of Cardwell. Phone QPWS Cardwell for more information on (07) 4066-8601.
