Places and Drives - The Southern Tropics - Edmund Kennedy
National Park
Explorer Edmund Kennedy travelled through this
area on his ill-fated 1848 expedition to Cape York. The park protects
a range of vegetation communities including foreshore plants, open
woodlands, rainforest, mangroves and unique Bulkuru sedgeland swamps.
There is a 5.5 km (3.4 mile) looped walk, a shorter boardwalk through
mangroves and a beachside picnic area with fantastic views of Hinchinbrook
and Goold islands.
How to get there
Edmund Kennedy National Park is 3km (1.8 miles) north of Cardwell.
