Places and Drives - The Southern Tropics - Five Mile Creek

Five Mile Creek is a relaxing place for a roadside break on the outskirts of Cardwell. There is a swimming hole, toilets and barbecue pits just 200 metres (650 feet) from the Bruce Highway. Like many freshwater creeks in the Wet Tropics, the water in Five Mile Creek has a blue tinge, apparently caused by an algae that thrives in the deeper pools.

How to get there
Five Mile Creek is about 8km (5 miles) south of Cardwell on the Bruce Highway. Phone DNR Cardwell on (07) 4766-8779.
