The World Parks Congress is the pre-eminent global forum on protected areas and is held once every ten years. Discussions focus on important, topical matters and help shape international conservation and protected area priorities for the coming decade.
The 2014 Congress is being held in Sydney in November, with over 3000 delegates from 160 countries expected to attend. This year’s theme is Parks, People, Planet: Inspiring Solutions with a focus on inspiring original solutions to current and emerging global challenges.
As part of the Congress programme, the Wet Tropics Management Authority is hosting a field trip for a small number of delegates. With the biodiversity of the Wet Tropics at particular risk from the emerging impacts of climate change, the field trip will demonstrate a range of initiatives being implemented to help mitigate impacts and enhance the integrity of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. It will also provide delegates with the opportunity to learn about Rainforest Aboriginal People’s culture and Country.
