Young Cassowary Awards
The Young Cassowary Awards began in 2005. They recognise the work of young people who help to conserve the Wet Tropics.
Who can enter?
Primary and secondary schools in tropical Far North Queensland
can enter an individual student, a group of students or a class.
What sort of projects qualify?
Your project should be an activity or study about the Wet Tropics
World Heritage Area. Your class may already have a project that
deserves an award, or you can come up with a new idea like:
• rainforest tree planting.
• a science experiment or research project.
• weed control or rubbish collection.
• a video, poster or mural about the rainforest.
• raising money for endangered species.
• a community education camp.
• a project about Wet Tropics plants or animals.
What do you get if you win an award?
Winners will be invited to a special awards ceremony
at RainForeStation with over 200 VIP guests. You will join an elite group of outstanding achievers
promoted in the media and on the Authority’s website (see the 2005 and 2006 pages). Winners will also receive prizes donated by local businesses.
How do you enter?
You can enter by filling out an entry form or emailingwtmaweb@wettropics.gov.au. Entries will be open until 19th September 2008 and the Awards night will be on 8 November 2008 at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park and Skyrail.
