On Friday 26 August 2016, Aloomba State School held a ‘Care for Cassowaries’ fundraising day, where students dressed up in blue and black and made gold coin donations to go towards cassowary research and care.
Best-dressed students from each class were presented with cassowary posters, stickers and temporary tattoos as part of raising awareness of this iconic Wet Tropics bird.
This initiative was organised by the school’s student leaders as their community action plan for the term and also involved all grades contributing to a ‘Cassowary Wall of Fame’ which consisted of artistically coloured cassowary pictures as well as facts and figures.
Students raised $156 which will go to C4 (Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation) based at Mission Beach.
