A T-QUAL grant of $66,000 will boost the Authority's commitment to quality tourism experiences in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the Wet Tropics National Landscape through the Wet Tropics Tourism Guide network.
T-QUAL Grants is a merit-based grants program that aims to stimulate sustainable economic growth in the Australian tourism industry. Grants are administered by the Department of Resource, Energy and Tourism.
Savannah Guides Limited will continue to work to design an innovative tour guide training program in partnership with the Wet Tropic Management Authority and the Queensland tourism industry. The project will deliver an integrated professional development program for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Tour Guides. The resulting quality of guide knowledge and presentation skills will provide a competitive edge and sustain growth in the region.
The funding will enable the delivery of Field Schools, create a scholarship fund for registration fees for guides in a three unit online course, support the development of resource materials and facilitate a range of industry engagement activities to solidify the program’s sustainability and importance in the region. Savannah Guides and Wet Tropics are enthusiastic about the opportunity to deliver many National Landscapes outcomes through the grant project.
