Winners of the Stamp Out Tramp Ants Insect Photography Competition - Wet Tropics Insects were announced at the Tanks Art Centre recently.
Wet Tropics executive director Andrew Maclean presented the winners with their prizes and certificates with Conservation Volunteers North Queensland Regional Manager, Dr Alice Crabtree in late June.
Winning entrants received a gift voucher, a Daintree Discovery Family pass, a Hugh Martin Ant sculpture and a commemorative certificate. Runners up were presented with a Hugh Martin Ant Sculpture a special ‘Stamp Out Tramp Ants’ USB stick and a commemorative certificate.
Dr Crabtree said competition organisers were ecstatic with the interest the Stamp Out Tramp Ants Insect Photography Competition created.
“The competition helped to raise the awareness of the threat Tramp Ants have on our native flora and fauna in and around the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.”
“By exhibiting the winning photos of these amazing specimens, we hope that people are inspired to take a closer look at the insects in their backyards and at the same time keep a vigilant watch for these extremely destructive invasive ants,” she added.
