Kids encouraged to get 'Wild' about art and environment

The 2017 Keep it Wild Eco-Art competition is now open.

The aim of the competition is for primary school children from around the Wet Tropics region to show how they can creatively inspire everyone through art, to protect our wonderful wildlife, rainforest and reef.

We are holding the competition in the second term this year and are asking students to create a sculpture from recycled material or clean litter.

Sculptures (the creations should be no bigger than 1m x 1m) should reflect what is so special about the Wet Tropics and how we can live sustainably to protect it.

There are two categories where prizes are provided to Prep to Year 3, and Year 4 to Year 6. This year, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Cairns Harbour & Sunset Cruises will be offering prizes for winners.

Cairns Regional Council Water and Waste will offer prizes for the runners-up.

Entries close on Friday 9 June 2017. Entries will be displayed at the Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre from 19 June to 24 July with the presentation of prizes scheduled for Friday 23 June from 4-5pm.
