On Monday 13 June, the Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), announced the Queen’s Birthday 2016 Honours List.
The Authority is delighted to announce that one of our very own staff received the prestigious honour and award of the Public Service Medal. Lucy Karger has been recognised “For outstanding public service to the environment in Queensland”.
Lucy has excelled in her role to manage, plan and implement the yellow crazy ant eradication program seeking innovative methods to implement the program efficiently. She is highly respected in the sugar cane industry, whose members collaborated with environmental groups and landholders to work on achieving the implementation of the program.
Lucy has raised awareness of yellow crazy ants through the media in order to highlight the damaging affects being caused to the environment. Lucy's dedication to eradicating yellow crazy ants has been unwaivering and inspiring. This recognition is a great example of the very positive partnership approach that the program has taken.
The Wet Tropics Management Authority is proud to share Lucy’s significant achievement—we congratulate her and thank her for her hard work and commitment in leading the yellow crazy ant eradication program.
