Christmas is just around the corner and as 2013 comes to a close I’d like to acknowledge what an important year it was for the Wet Tropics Management Authority and the Wet Tropics community.
The 25 year anniversary of the listing of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area gave us an opportunity to reflect on the last 25 years and to once again acknowledge the vital role of the community in the World Heritage Area.
Without community support 25 years ago there wouldn't be a World Heritage Area. Community stewardship today maintains the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area as a healthy and vibrant ecosystem offering locals and visitors a myriad of recreational opportunities, with many that support the region’s economy.
To the many volunteers and passionate staff throughout our community involved in restoration, rehabilitation and presentation of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, I thank you and look forward to your continued involvement over the next 25 years.
On behalf of the staff and Board of the Wet Tropics Management Authority, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and safe and prosperous New Year.
