Public notice: aerial baiting

The Wet Tropics Management Authority will conduct yellow crazy ant aerial baiting and ground treatments in Bentley Park and Edmonton from 5 December, weather permitting. Aerial treatments are expected to take approximately one week, and ground treatments will continue throughout December. The baiting is part of our ongoing commitment to eradicate yellow crazy ants from the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and surrounds.

The helicopter will not conduct baiting directly over homes. There may be instances where the pilot may approach within 100m of suburban property boundaries or rural buildings. Accordingly, notice of these operations is provided as required by Civil Aviation Order 20.21 Instrument 2015.

Aerial baiting is highly weather dependent; treatment dates may change unexpectedly. Updates will be posted on this website.

Enquiries: please email the Wet Tropics Management Authority at YCA@wtma.qld.gov.au or call 4241 0525.

The control of yellow crazy ant infestations in and adjacent to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area is supported through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.
