Reappointment of the Board of the Wet Tropics Management Authority

9 December 2018—Queensland Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch today announced the reappointment of the Wet Tropics Management Authority Board of Directors.

The reappointment of the Board was agreed by Minister Enoch and by the former Federal Minister for the Environment and Energy, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP.

Chair of the Board, Ms Leslie Shirreffs PSM and directors Professor Iain Gordon and Phil Rist return for a three-year term, while directors John Courtenay, Anne Clarke and Dr Leah Talbot return for an 18-month term.

The staggered appointment terms will assist to maintain strong institutional governance and leadership memory within the Wet Tropics Management Authority, and ensure continuity of programs and decision-making.

Minister Enoch said the board of directors has made great strides in a number of important programs in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area over the past three years.

‘Chief among the Board’s recent achievements are moves towards a climate change adaptation strategy and supporting meaningful engagement with First Nations people in the Wet Tropics to ensure positive livelihood outcomes,’ Minister Enoch said.

‘I look forward to working with the Board on these and other issues and programs in the Wet Tropics to ensure it remains a world-renowned natural and cultural landscape.’

All directors were eligible for reappointment under the Wet Tropics World Heritage Protection and Management Act 1993 (Qld), having all completed one three-year term. Directors are eligible for reappointment unless they have completed six consecutive years as a director.

All appointments are effective 26 November 2018.
