The Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA) is seeking expressions of interest from experts ready to apply their knowledge to the complex and real-world challenges the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area (the Area) is facing.
The Scientific Advisory Committee supports the WTMA Board by providing advice on scientific research and monitoring priorities that contribute to protection, conservation, management, as well as scientific developments, relevant to the Area.
Committee membership comprises experts and knowledge holders in either biophysical sciences, ecology, natural and cultural heritage, or socio-economic disciplines who are comfortable working in transdisciplinary contexts. Members will have active research interests associated with the Area and the committee will comprise representatives from a range of institutions.
Committee members will be appointed to a three-year term from 2026-2029. The Committee meets a minimum of three times a year with meetings held in Cairns or online.
Committee membership is on a voluntary basis as per Queensland Government policy, with Rainforest Aboriginal committee members paid in accordance with the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) First Nations Payment Guide.
