Focus
Students write an Information Report on an animal or plant at risk.

Pedagogy/teaching strategies
Introduce the Information Report genre:
• Discuss the purpose, generic structure and language features
• Analyse an example
• Develop a collective example
• Research texts and websites to find suitable information for students to take notes. Record notes on the Information Report Template.
• Individual students select their own topic, research, record notes, write first draft, correct draft and publish the report.

Activity sequence
1. Introduce the Information Report genre above.
2. Provide examples and discuss generic structure and language features.
3. Collectively write a class report.

Assessment opportunities
Students each write an Information Report on their chosen animal or plant. See Information Report Assessment Unit 1 for suggested guidelines.
