Regional tourism organisations

The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area spans two regional tourism destinations, each offering inspiration, travel information and local knowledge to help you plan your visit.

  • Tourism Tropical North Queensland promotes destinations including Cairns, Port Douglas, the Daintree, Kuranda, the Atherton Tableland, Mission Beach, the Cassowary Coast, Cape York and the Gulf Savannah.
  • Townsville Enterprise promotes the Townsville North Queensland region, including the southern reaches of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, and provides information on attractions, experiences and itineraries.

Both organisations work with local tourism operators and visitor information centres to showcase the best experiences across the Wet Tropics.

Visitor information centres

Accredited visitor information centres provide free, independent advice to help you get the most from your visit. Friendly local staff can assist with:

National parks and visitor safety

Many of the Wet Tropics' most popular walking tracks, lookouts and visitor sites are located on national parks, conservation parks, state forests and forest reserves managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Before you head out, visit the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service website to:

  • check park alerts, closures and conditions
  • find maps and walking track information
  • book a campsite
  • learn about visitor safety

Experience Rainforest Aboriginal Country

The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area is a living cultural landscape and the traditional Country of more than 20 distinct Rainforest Aboriginal groups.

Take the opportunity to experience Rainforest Aboriginal culture through guided tours, cultural experiences and visits to Indigenous art centres. Connecting with Traditional Custodians offers a deeper understanding of the landscapes, stories and continuing cultural connections that make the Wet Tropics so special.

You can find cultural experiences through regional tourism organisations, visitor information centres or directly through Rainforest Aboriginal organisations across the region. While you're visiting, please respect Country by following local guidance, staying on designated tracks and treating cultural places with care.
