Mission Beach hosts Wet Tropics tour guide field school

Local community group, C4, hosted the Wet Tropics Tour Guide Program field school at Mission Beach on 2–3 November. The school brought groups and individuals from across the region together to explore tourism, conservation ideas as well as development opportunities in the Cassowary Coast area. Around 45 attendees enjoyed a range of presentations and visited Lacey Creek, Mamu Tropical Skywalk, Mena Creek and Dunk Island.

The rehabilitation and re-establishment of Dunk Island as a destination, following severe damage caused by Cyclone Yasi in 2011, was a focal point. Experience Co’s Chief Operating Officer Danny Hughes attended and spoke of the company’s plans for the island, engaging with locals for some great conversations.

As is usual with these field schools, the informative presentations and interactive site visits were enhanced by the coming together of like-minded people learning and sharing experiences. Field school attendees not only pick up practical skills and information, but develop and grow fantastic networks.
